“When a team outgrows individual performance and learns team confidence, excellence becomes a reality.”

I must confess I just don't get some people maybe it is the accountant in me but if you are spending money on something you are going to use it.  It frustrates me to no end to hear from parents how they have a teammate that consistently doesn't show up.   My son plays baseball and it is pretty inexpensive so I can understand missing some practices but with what we pay for competitive cheer I just don't get it.

In other sports such as baseball or basketball, there is no routine and it doesn't mess up the dynamic as much as it does when someone is missing on a cheer squad.  If one member of the pyramid is missing, it all tumbles to the ground.   I am known as the krazy koupon lady.  I am always tried to get the best bang for my buck but regardless my daughter never wants to miss a practice.  Even if I wanted to stay home, she wants to go.  We are on year 6 and she still makes every practice as long as she is in town.   I heard from one parent how these girls say they are away and they see picture of the girls on facebook at someplace local or statuses that say on the phone with so and so.  Social Media is a dangerous thing.

I am not going to star my rant about how I hate social media but if you don't want someone to know where you are or what you are doing don't post it on facebook on tumblr or google + or twitter.  Show some restraint, please for the sake of your teammates.  This seems to be the biggest complaint I hear from people.  I personally don't notice it in relation to my gym because I have so many people on my account from all over the world but when I talk to parents from all over, they seem to complain about social media the most.  The other one is seeing the underage drinking.  Does your gym have a policy about social media?  I don't know if ours does to be honest but I have heard that others do.  My daughter is very young and I have been criticized for her having a facebook account but to be honest, I check it all day.  I have deleted people and I have taken some out of her feed.  As our young athletes advance in cheer they end up with older girls and they end up adding them on facebook.  Then to see these girls they look up to with alcohol in their hands at age 16 is disheartening.  I am not going to say I didn't do it but there was no social media back then.  The reason I let her have an account is because I want to see her chats.  She was chatting on Instant Messengers and the messages disappear on facebook they are saved.  I know who she is talking to and this is where she shares her pictures.

Anyhow, for those of you who have already gone back to school, enjoy!  For those that start next week like us, good luck on your first day!
